Greenwich, Connecticut, home theater earns recognition from home technology industry.
Three years ago a client wanted to transform a spare guest room in their basement into an entertainment center that would be a gathering space for family and friends. At that time, none of us envisioned the project would evolve into the spectacular dedicated theater it became. Now the homeowners can boast they have a two-time award-winning home theater. This Greenwich, Connecticut theater recently won Gold in the Electronic House Home of the Year Awards for 2016, in the category of Best Home Theater – $150,000 or more.
The theater employs Pro Audio Technology speakers to provide Auro-3D sound, processed through an award-winning Datasat RS20i surround sound processor, all with power isolation from Torus Power. Crestron control makes it easy for the homeowners to adjust lights and choose from a number of sources, including a Kaleidescape movie server. The extensive acoustical treatments isolate the basement theater from the rest of the home and provide a truly immersive movie experience, while allowing a quiet conversation just outside.
We won’t lie – the project was not without its challenges, which we discussed here, and which were covered extensively in an article published in Electronic House Magazine. But the entire team, including builder Richard Rosano of RR Builders, architect Scott Soper of Soper Babcock Associates, and especially the client, pulled together to accommodate the space and acoustical requirements of the theater, seamlessly merging aesthetics and technology.
A Trend-setter in Home Theater Design
The project exemplifies several up-and-coming trends in home technology, including the use of Auro-3D object-based surround sound to bring movies to life in a way home viewers have never experienced before. The Datasat processing makes every nuance audible from any angle. The Torus Power WM-45 offers transient voltage surge suppression to power and protect all the equipment and further ensure clean sound. The room employs all three tenets of a superior project: appropriate room structure, clean power, and the perfect blend of equipment to create a home theater recognized by industry professionals and loved by the home’s residents.
After winning a HOBI Award from the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut, we are pleased and excited to be recognized within the custom electronics industry with an Electronic House Home of the Year Award. “Judging criteria for the Electronic House 2016 Home of the Year Awards included all aspects of custom installation, such as project creativity, innovation, equipment, obstacles overcome, homeowner priorities, aesthetics and lifestyle benefits,” said the EH editors in our notification letter.
Knowing the quality of home theaters designed today, we are certain we faced many quality competitors – we would like to commend every technology professional who submitted a project, and congratulate the winners in the other categories as well.
